Jessica AH CHONG Age 17

Education - International Studies

Deputy Head Girl at Tawa College, Jessica is very involved in School and community activities, barbershop quartet, student tutoring, speech competitions, church youth group. Along with the busy schedule she obtains high academic achievement. Jessica’s grant will help with University costs next year.

 

Fergus BRAMLEY Age 17

Sport - Canoe Slalom

Charlotte DAVIS

Attending Onslow College, Fergus has excellent academic results. He is a talented sportsman excelling in hockey and canoeing. Selected for the NZ under 18 Australian Tour canoe development squad he will gain in experience which will help towards getting a place in the NZ Junior Team.

 

Madeleine BROCKELSBY Age 23

Education - Clinical Psychology Post Graduate

Currently at Victoria University Madeleine is studying towards her Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology a course that is very hard to get into. Besides achieving high grades Madeleine is a keen sailor and a member of the Aotearoa Youth Voices network. Along with her part time work the grant will assist with course fees.

 

Agnes CHU Age 18

Education – Medicine

At St Mary’s College Agnes shows excellent academic and leadership skills. Her interest’s include, Piano, stage team, basketball and badminton. She gained her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award last year and is a member of the school debating team. The grant will assist with study expenses next year.

 

Charlotte DAVISSarah COLLINS Age 22

Education – Biomedical Science Masters

Working on her Masters during 2015 and presenting very high quality work including getting a Victoria Alumni award for Academic Merit and community involvement. Sarah is active in the community both as a valued Pippins Leader and as a volunteer for Riding for the Disabled along with voluntary work for the neurology laboratory at Victoria University.

 

Michael KALAPAGE Age 17

Education – Bachelor of Engineering

A school prefect at Tawa College Michael is an outstanding student achieving numerous awards in music, maths and science. He has fully immersed himself in wider activities including debating, hockey and lawn bowls. A member of the dawn Chorus, Barbershop quartet and he is a talented Saxophone player (as we have heard). A determined young man his award will go towards his study costs.

 

Richard KAY Age 18

Sport – Underwater Hockey

Charlotte DAVIS

A student at Scots College and a national representative underwater hockey player. Richard recently captained the under 18 men’s team to victory in the Trans Tasman competition. He is also the captain of the Scots team that has won the school championship for the last two years. Showing dedication to his sport and great leadership skills his aim is to be selected for the 2015 world Champs in Spain. The grant goes towards his sport costs.

 

Katherine KOOISTRA Age 17

Education – Bachelor of Arts/Commerce

Charlotte DAVIS

A student at St Mary’s College who has achieve outstanding academic success across all subjects. Katherine is fully involved in the life of her college and has contributed through Stage Challenge, debating, public speaking, orchestra and many sporting codes. She also tutors other students. Her grant will go towards university costs.

 

Hamish LAING Age 22

Education – Masters in Sustainable Energy

Hamish has just completed a Bachelor of Engineering with honours at Canterbury University. Environmentally minded he has been recognised when awarded the Sir Peter Blake Trust Youth Antarctic Ambassador, spending a summer in the Antarctic earlier this year. Next year Hamish will begin his Masters degree in Sustainable Energy at Imperial College London and this grant will assist with costs.

 

Piimio Erepeti MEI Age 16

Arts – Ballet

Charlotte DAVISPiimio’s passion is ballet. A student at the Royal Academy of Dance, where they specialise in helping dancers to create a career within dancing. A late starter in Dance Piimio has shown dedication, has a great natural talent and physique for dance. Her aim is to get into the School of Dance three year diploma course or attend a one year Classical Coaching Programme in Christchurch. Her grant will go towards tuition costs.

 

Livvy MITCHELL Age 17

Charlotte DAVISEducation – Public Speaking

Head girl at St Mary’s College, Livvy stands out as a young woman with exceptional academic and leadership skills and is passionate about helping others to reach their potential. Successful herself she is striving to promote public speaking in younger pupils to improve their confidence and skills along with their leadership development. Livvy’s award will assist her in setting this project in place.

 

Rachel MURRAY Age 23

Education – Outdoor Instructor

Currently Rachel is currently at Victoria University studying for her Masters in Architecture. In addition to this commitment Rachel aims to attain her Bush Instructor Award, a qualification recognising the ability to lead and instruct multi day tramping excursions which will help with Expeditions for World Challenge. A 2012 Youth Grant recipient Rachel has a proven record of Community service helping local Colleges with Outdoor education programmes. Her grant will assist costs of the Outdoor Instructing qualification.

 

Ryan NAFTEL Age 18

Education – Criminology

Charlotte DAVIS

Currently in his first year at Victoria University studying for a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Criminology. A Johnsonville resident all of his life, an age group representative Hockey player for a number of years, an umpire and Junior Coach and has run a Hockey holiday programme in the school holidays. Ryan aims to be the first male in his extended Cook Island family to get a degree and his long term plan is to join the New Zealand Police force.

 

Charlotte DAVISShannon POULTNEY Age 13

Student

Shannon is a student at Newlands Intermediate. She suffers from dyslexia as well as having auditory and visual processing challenges. A Girl Guide and a member of St Johns where she has placed well in District competitions as a senior cadet. Next year she will attend a programme designed to “rewire the brain”, called the Arrowsmith Programme at Samuel Marsden school. The award will assist with the programme costs.

 

Hayden ROBERTSON Age 17

Sport – Rowing

Charlotte DAVIS

A student at Onslow College and part of the school rowing team since 2010. Outstanding achievements in winning silver and bronze medals in the Maadi Cup for U16 singles and U16 fours. This year he won the U17 singles event. In addition to rowing Hayden has proven to be an effective leader and role model at Onslow. His aim is to compete in the rowing championships in Rio de Janeiro next August and needs to do well in the trials at Twizel and Cambridge beforehand. The grant will assist with costs.

 

Megan ROBERTSON Age 18

Sport – Football

Charlotte DAVIS

Currently at Auckland University studying for a BA/BCom degree. In 2014 Megan represented New Zealand in the U20 FIFA women’s football world cup in Canada. A NZ representative U20 player against Brazil in May and against Fiji Vanuatu and papus New Guinea in February. A member of the squad since 2013 Megan’s grant will help towards the cost contribution that is required.

 

Anna TRIBE Age 17

Education – Biomedical Science

Charlotte DAVIS

A current student at Wellington Girls College where she has consistently achieved at the highest level academically. Anna is involved in a range of activities including Amnesty International, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Next year will be the start of her Biomedical Science degree at Victoria University and the grant will assist with course costs.

 

Ellen VAN LOOY Age 17

Sport – Running

Charlotte DAVIS

In her final year at Tawa College Ellen has been involved with a variety of activities outside of College, swimming, harriers, and surf life saving. She is passionate about running winning cross country, track events and half marathons. Holding high standards for herself she always seek to improve. Ellen intends to continue her running while at Victoria and her grant will go towards her university costs.

 

Adrina VENAYAGAM Age 16

Education – Biomedical/Health Science

Charlotte DAVISCurrently attending Tawa College Adrian’s long term goal is to become a Paediatrician. An exceptional student and talented in science she has won first place for year 9 students in the NIWA Science and Technology Fair also winning first place in 2012 and 2013. Adrina has represented the College at the Rio Tinto and ICAS Science Competitions with distinction. Adrina is fully involved in Tawa College at both sporting and cultural levels. The grant will go towards education costs when Adrina starts University.
